What is the role of the Rambam in Halacha?

The Rambam, also known as Maimonides, is best known for compiling a comprehensive code of Jewish law, which is found in his work titled "Mishneh Torah." This monumental text systematically organizes Jewish legal principles and serves as a primary reference for Jews studying Halacha. His goal was to make the laws accessible and understandable, creating a single, authoritative source that covers the entirety of Jewish law across various aspects of life, including rituals, ethics, and civil law.

While the Rambam did write commentaries on the Torah, his most significant contribution to Halacha is the Mishneh Torah, which goes beyond commentary to synthesize and codify legal rulings. He did discuss kashrut and its laws within the Mishneh Torah, but he did not establish these laws; they existed before him and he organized them within his legal framework. The characterization of the Rambam as someone who wrote anti-Jewish literature is wholly inaccurate and does not reflect his contributions to Jewish thought and law.
